Two new history papers

We have added to the History of Groomsport page of this website, two new papers on aspects of the village’s history.

“The early history of Groomsport” covers the time before the arrival of the Scottish settlers in the early 1600s. It also contains interesting information about how the name of the village has changed over the centuries.

You may be surprised to learn that the village’s first recorded name, in 1333, was Mollerytoun.

“The residents of Groomsport in the early 1860s” lists all those who were living in the village at that time.

You may be able to find some of your ancestors among them.
